A Deep Dive into the Ground-Breaking Work of Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes
“Within every woman there lives a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. She is the Wild Woman, who represents the instinctual nature of women. But she is an endangered species.
For though the gifts of wildish nature belong to us at birth, society’s attempt to “civilize” us into rigid roles has muffled the deep, life-giving messages of our own souls. In Women Who Run With the Wolves, Dr. Estes unfolds rich intercultural myths, fairy tales, and stories, many from her own family, in order to help women reconnect with the fierce, healthy, visionary attributes of this instinctual nature.
Through the stories and commentaries in this remarkable book, we retrieve, examine, love, and understand the Wild Woman, and hold her against our deep psyches as one who is both magic and medicine. Dr. Estes has created a new lexicon for describing the female psyche. Fertile and life-giving, it is a psychology of women in the truest sense, a knowing of the soul.” (via the Publisher of Women Who Run With the Wolves)
If you have been a lover of this body of work, have heard of WWRWTW but never had the opportunity to read and study it, or are simply curious about exploring the soul-life and instinctual nature of women, then this is the course for you. With the current political and societal climate, as well as the life-altering shared experience we have all lived through since 2020, there could not be better or more urgent time to reawaken the Wild Woman within each of us.
Over the course of six, 2 hour classes, we will discuss the first-third of WWRWTW in depth, discovering the motifs, hidden meanings, and lessons within each story, and uncovering tangible, real-world application of these feminine archetypes/stories to begin changing your life and understanding of yourself in profound, lasting ways.
In addition, there will be exercises and teachings from the Singing Over the Bones training, a course in which I was a mentee and received my facilitator training in with Dr. Estes.
This course is meant to be part one of a series of three, with the remaining chapters of WWRWTW to be covered in subsequent courses in the series.
Since our world and how we gather has altered greatly since I last ran this course, it will now be ran as an online, virtual offering. We will meet via Zoom, with all class recordings, discussions, and other materials being shared via our own Google Classroom.
Our class meeting dates will take place on a blend of Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons in hopes to give all participants the best chance possible to attend live sessions (I know we all have different work/life schedules). While you might not be able to make all sessions live, make every effort to attend as many of the live sessions as you can, as this will ensure that you get the best experience possible.
